Crews are continuing to fight a fire on Meadow Creek Mountain near Tweed Springs Road that was reported Wednesday.
The fire, near the Greene County and Cocke County line, is reportedly around 70 acres and was 0 percent contained this afternoon. Smoke from the fire is visible today in the Southern Part of Greene County. The fire is reportedly under investigation as human caused.
Pisgah National Forest on the North Carolina side has banned all outdoor burning and fire restrictions are in place. The Cherokee National Forest has not and no restrictions have been placed yet.
The TN Division of Forestry has issued PERMIT RESTRICTIONS for Greene County through Sunday, November 12th, according to the Greeneville/Greene County Office of Emergency Management. Remember during extreme drought conditions it is not safe to burn, especially combined with wind gusts and low relative humidity values, it can lead to an elevated fire risk.
