UPDATE: There is a Flood Advisory for Greene County until 7:45 PM. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for central Greene County until 7:30 PM. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rain up to 1 inch is expected.
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected in areas including: Greeneville, Tusculum, Mosheim, Bulls Gap, Baileyton, Mohawk, Caney Branch, Camp Creek, Chuckey, Erwin, Davy Crockett Birthplace, Unicoi and Morristown.
The NWS updated the forecast rainfall totals this morning from 2-3 inches of total rainfall to 2-6 inches of total rainfall through Friday morning.
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected in Greene County today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
Some isolated flooding will be possible, especially for areas that see repeated showers and thunderstorms. The rainfall is expected to bring 2-6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. Additionally, isolated damaging winds cannot be ruled out with possible stronger storms this afternoon, mainly for portions of the southern Tennessee Valley.
Winds could gust as high as 20 mph today with temperatures in the mid 70’s and lows near 68 degrees. Showers continue tomorrow with a high near 81 and lows near 64. By this weekend expect sunshine as it will be mostly sunny near 85 degrees on Saturday, but there is a 50% chance of rain back on Sunday.
