A Chuckey man was arrested on drug and weapon charges following an incident at a Wilhoit Road residence on Monday afternoon.
A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was on routine patrol around 1:30 PM when he saw Vincent Apel of Stone Dam Road, who had an outstanding warrant, standing in the yard of a home on Wilhoit Road. The deputy turned around and saw Apel attempting to conceal himself.
When the deputy turned in the driveway, Apel reportedly ran around the end of the house. He was given verbal commands to stop, but kept running. A short foot pursuit ensured and Apel attempted to get inside the house. The deputy pulled his taser and Apel then threw items he removed from his pockets. Apel reportedly refused to follow commands and the taser was deployed to take him into custody.
The items he threw out of his pockets included a pair of latex gloves, multiple empty baggies, pre-packaged baggies of heroin, and a baggie of methamphetamine.
As the deputy was escorting Apel back to the patrol car, he attempted to conceal a handgun that was lying in the grass. The gun was loaded with one in the chamber. The gun’s identifiers had been grinded off.
Apel was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, the manufacture, delivery sale or possession of meth, simple possession of a schedule 1 drug and evading arrest.
