Almost a year has passed since the Fatz Café closed due to the company filing for bankruptcy and after wondering what would be replacing Fatz, we learned a developer bought the building and was creating Hometown Market Place.
What is Hometown Market Place? Well according to the developer Amos Stoltzfus, who is originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, it’s a Mennonite family run business that will have a farmer’s market type of style. We found out the business will cook and prepare hot meals, smoked meat, salads, and will include a Pretzel Bakery and Deli. But what kind of meats and meals will they be offering? Radio Greeneville News got a list of what you can expect on the menu and a sneak peak of the inside.
When you enter the building on the left side you will see their Pretzel Bakery featuring pretzel logs and wraps with a choice of fillings. The Deli area will be on your right with all meats pre-sliced.
Another section will include a variety of fresh salads (potato, coleslaw, macaroni etc.), soups, cream cheese spreads, fruit cups, and chicken potpies. Sandwiches and Subs are pre-made for a grab and go convenience.
The hot meal options include shrimp, fish, fried chicken, a variety of wing options, ribs, and beef. The sides include mashed potatoes, collard greens, candied yams, macaroni and cheese, and green beans, just to name a few. There is no indoor dining.
Stoltzfus, who has been in the food business for about 27 years, said a lot of their home made recipes are actually from his Amish grandmother. Hometown Market Place will most likely open in mid July. Hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM Wednesday through Saturday.
