Greene County Board of Education approved a resolution to move forward with applying for a School Resource Officer Grant at their meeting yesterday afternoon.
The grant was brought up at Monday’s Commission meeting and would dedicate $75,000 to each school placing a SRO at each one. They approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Greene County and the Sheriff’s Department as the application needs to be submitted with approval from governing bodies. This will help keep schools safer and secure in learning environments. The application will need to be submitted for approval.
Bids were approved for Career and Technical Educational equipment including: a coding hand kit, collaborative robot package, color 4 station press, and drone kit. North Greene High School got approved for their students to attend a field trip on September 23rd, 2023. They will be traveling to the University of Tennessee to perform with the UT band in Knoxville.
The board also approved the agreement between the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, (UETHDA) and Greene County Schools for the purpose of serving children with disabilities. Local education agencies and Head Start will work together to assure children who qualify receive appropriate services, like speech evaluations and therapy.
Several projects are under way at Greene County Schools with next year being the estimated time for completion on some. Radio Greeneville will speak with Director of School’s David McClain for an update on projects and renovations.
