A Telford man, who was an inmate at the Washington County Detention Center, has died following an altercation with another inmate.
75-year-old Johnny Slagle of Telford died on Monday at an area hospital from injuries sustained during the altercation with 29-year-old Daniel Alejandro Mira of Coral Springs, Florida.
Deputies responded to the report of a physical altercation inside a cell on June 14. Medical staff responded and made the determination Slagle needed to be transported to the hospital.
Mira was charged following the altercation with attempted second degree murder. New charges are now pending against Mira following Slagle’s death. Mira was originally booked into the detention center on charges related to a burglary.
At the request of Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton, the District Attorney General’s Office asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations to assist with investigation.
