The Greeneville Energy Authority met yesterday morning and heard updates from departments as well as approved all items on their agenda including a rate increase on customers electric bills.
The rate increase will take action beginning October. CEO Chuck Bowlin stated the rates are looked at every May as there is a 90-day approval process with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He said TVA did a Pandemic Relief Credit because of Covid-19, which helped residents on their bills. That credit is now ending and because of it the rate needs to be adjusted.
Bowlin added they try to due rate increases little by little instead of all at once to alleviate some of the expenses for customers. It will be about a $2 difference or about 1.44%. There will also be a new electric bill going out possibly starting in June, that will have a more modern look with a breakdown of costs. The electric bill will be separate from Broadband and due dates will change but only about a day or two. Broadband preparation is still in the works and will have 4 different billing cycle options for customers.
