The Greeneville Police Department is warning citizens of a scam.
According to a press release issued this afternoon, the department has been notified of phone calls being placed from a number appearing to be from the Greeneville Police Department. The scammer is using Chief Tim Ward’s name saying that the person’s financial information had been used fraudulently. The scammer then tries to obtain the person’s banking information.
These calls are not legitimate. If you receive one of them, hang up immediately and do not give out any personal information.
Anyone who had been a victim of a scam should report it to their local law enforcement agency.
