An update has been provided by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on a structure fire at a mobile home Saturday morning, on 15700 Horton Highway.
Deputies responded to the fire around 5 AM Saturday and upon arriving the singlewide trailer was engulfed in flames. The victim stated she went to use the bathroom and noticed smoke coming from an unknown location. The victim went outside to call 911 and then returned into the home in attempt to save her animals. A witness, Emmit Nicholas, was driving past the mobile home at that time and stopped to help the victim with her animals.
According to the report, the county condemned the home and no one was supposed to be living in the residence. Heaters were used prior to the fire and the fire appeared to be from an electrical issue. The structure was determined a total loss.
Volunteers from the United Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene. Volunteers from Newmansville, Fall Branch, and the Debusk Rehab Unit also responded, as did EMS and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. A total of 25 firemen responded to the scene and 8,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the flames. Volunteers left the scene around 8:30.
