A Greene County woman was the victim of a scam that cost her more than $4,000.
On Wednesday, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was notified by a Mountain River Drive woman that a man called her and used the Amazon scam, in which the victim is told their account is hacked and payment is needed to prevent it from happening again. The victim purchased $4,000 in Target and Game Stop gift cards and paid an additional $83 using Venmo.
While the victim was being interviewed by officers, the scammers called the woman again and tried to get more money from her, according to the report.
