The Greeneville Beer Board has tabled a request for on-premise consumption at Casa Express, which recently opened in the former Pizza Hut restaurant at 915 Tusculum Boulevard.
An ordinance was passed several years ago requiring a buffer of 200 feet from an establishment with a beer permit to the nearest entrance to a park, church, school or public playground. The entrance to the restaurant is about 170 to 180 feet away from the splash pad at Eastview, according to Greeneville chief of police Tim Ward.
The Pizza Hut restaurant had a on-premise consumption permit at the time of the adoption of the ordinance and therefore received an exemption, but that exemption went away when Pizza Hut closed.
City Administrator Todd Smith said that he will work to adjust the language in the ordinance which would enable Casa Express to obtain a beer permit, and bring the revision to the Board of Mayor & Aldermen for a vote at a future meeting.
