The Greeneville Board of Mayor & Aldermen approved at their meeting on Tuesday subdividing and selling around 35 acres of town-owned property at Hardin Industrial Park.
At a meeting in January, Planning Director Randy Davenport said that the property could possibly be turned into a park. According to City Administrator Todd Smith, trails could potentially be constructed on the property, but the cost of development would be high and he does not think the Town would get a good return on investment.
The property contains a creek, sinkholes, and there is a certified wetland.
The Board also approved a resolution supporting the restoration of the historical state shared sales tax relationship between the State of Tennessee and local governments.
In 2002, the state increased the state sales tax rate from six to seven percent, but municipalities did not receive their share of the one percent increase.
This resolution will be sent to state legislators.
The Greeneville Board of Mayor & Aldermen will next meet on Tuesday, March 1.
