A camper at the Round Pond Campground was destroyed by fire Sunday evening, no injuries were reported. The United Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched just before 5 PM to 617 Van Hill Road. A camper was engulfed in flames when volunteers arrived.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office report, the complainant said he heard people hollering, stating they needed a fire extinguisher. The complainant reportedly saw smoke coming from the camper next to him and then called 911.
Contact was made with the owner who was not in the camper at the time of the fire and was unsure if anything was left on. He stated he didn’t believe anything was left on inside but did say he left his cap machine plugged in.
The camper, valued at $35,000, was determined a total loss. A camper that was next to the one that caught fire also got damaged and was estimated at around $8,000. No injuries were reported.
