The highest parts of the mountains could see up to 3″ of snow, just 48 hours after highs in the upper 70s.
The weather system that came through last night has brought Redbud Winter with it, dropping temperatures into the 50s today and 30s over the next two nights.
The National Weather Service in Morristown says that periods of precipitation will begin tonight and continue into tomorrow. No accumulation is expected in the valley, but elevations above 3000′ could see some accumulations. The forecast says the amounts will vary greatly depending on the exact location and elevation. Up to 5″ of snow may accumulate in the highest parts of the Smokies and Roan Mountain.
Wind chills in the teens are also possible in the mountains.
For our listener’s reference, Greystone Mountain is about 3,200′ in elevation, and the top of Camp Creek Bald/Viking Mountain is 4,843′ and is the highest point in Greene County.
