Ralph William “Bill” Harmon, 86, of Mohawk, passed away Monday evening at Morristown Hamblen Hospital.
Bill worked in the sporting goods department of Doughty-Stevens Furniture for many years and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He served in the United States Army.
He served on the Greene County Board of Education from 1986 to 1998.
Bill was a member and elder of Mohawk Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Mohawk Ruritan Club, a member of Mosheim Masonic Lodge No. 463 F&AM, and the Shriners.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years: Mary Bise Harmon; one son: Teddy Harmon; one granddaughter: Milly Lou Harmon; one sister: Judy Goan; one brother and sister-in-law: Ronnie and Cathy Harmon; aunt: Jean Gibson; brother-in-law and his wife: Larry and Janie Bise; two nieces and two nephews: Christopher Harmon, Misty Harmon, Crystal Jessee, and Eric Goan; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Lucy Harmon; brother: James R. “Bob” Harmon; daughter-in-law: Jenny Harmon; brother-in-law: James Goan; nephew: Steve Harmon; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Cecil and Inis Bise.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 o’clock in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The Rev. Chris Franklin will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens at 10 a.m. Friday for the committal service.
