One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a single-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon on Interstate 81 in Greene County, just before the Hamblen County line.
The wreck was reported just after 1 p.m. near the 18-mile marker in the southbound lanes.
The vehicle rolled, pinning one person underneath, who died at the scene. Another occupant was extricated and flown by CareFlight to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene and the investigation and cleanup continued.
EMS, Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad, Town of Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department, Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the wreck. The Tennessee Department of Transportation also responded to assist with traffic control.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
