A man was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center after being trapped in his vehicle following a wreck Sunday morning on West Andrew Johnson Highway in Mosheim.
The wreck was reported at 10:16 a.m. near 9281 W. Andrew Johnson Highway, just before the intersection with West Greene Drive. The vehicle was northbound when it went off the highway and struck two wooden utility poles before coming to rest on its side.
The driver, 38-year-old Jacob Buchanan, was the only person in the vehicle and was trapped following the wreck. Emergency personnel worked for about 25 minutes to free him from the wreckage. He was taken by CareFlight medical helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Damage to the utility poles left cable and telephone lines hanging low across the highway, forcing traffic in both directions to be diverted around the scene.
The Town of Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department, Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad, EMS, Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded. Greeneville Energy Authority was called because of the damaged utility poles and lines, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
