The Greeneville City Council meets this afternoon and will get an update from the Greeneville Police Department.
The department reported 11,550 calls to service from January 1st, 2024 through July 30th, 2024. April was reportedly the busiest month with 2,209 calls. Narcotic charges are trending up from the same time frame in 2023 with 96 compared to 111 in 2024. Homeless arrests have increased from 50 in 2023 to 61 this year.
Police responded to 15 overdoses this year through July compared to 20 during the same time frame in 2023. Also, through July of this year compared to 2023, DUI and drug calls have increased. Assaults are trending down to 116 in 2024 from 131 in 2023.
A purchase for three vehicles will be considered for Greeneville police during the City Council meeting. The purchase is part of this Fiscal Year’s budget. The quote was estimated at $129,420 with a bid from Carville. Another police vehicle will be considered as a replacement.
The meeting will begin at 4 PM in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom inside of the Greeneville Energy Authority Building on 110 North College Street.
