A camper and mobile home on Mt. Carmel Road were destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon.
Volunteers were called to 3665 Mt. Carmel Road at the intersection of C. W. Kite Lane just before 3:30 PM.
The camper initially caught fire, and the resident of that camper escaped to warn the residents of a trailer nearby. By the time firefighters arrived on the scene at 3665 Mt. Carmel Road, the fire had spread to the mobile home.
The Mosheim, Town of Mosheim, Midway, United, Caney Branch, and Orebank Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene. The Debusk Rehab Unit and Greene County Chaplain Danny Ricker responded, as did the Greeneville Energy Authority, EMS, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department stood by to help cover the western part of the county while the other departments fought the blaze. The fire was brought under control around 5:00 PM, with firefighters remaining on the scene until after 7 PM.
The camper was completely destroyed, and the mobile home and contents were almost completely destroyed.
