A Morristown man is facing multiple charges after reportedly using a stolen vehicle to vandalize a man’s property, then attempting to flee deputies on foot.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department was notified around 3:45 Wednesday that a red Nissan Titan was traveling erratically on the Newport Highway toward Greeneville. The driver of the pickup truck had reportedly driven into yards along the highway and attempted to start fights with residents standing in their yards.
Deputies then received a report of a burglary in progress along Hartman Chapel Road, and that a man driving a red pickup was attempting to break into cars and homes. Deputies found the truck abandoned from an accident along the side of the roadway, and saw 34-year-old Tyler Worley walking through a field. Worley refused to stop for deputies and tried to wade through a creek, but was taken into custody.
A records check showed that the truck had been stolen out of Hamblen County and that charges would be filed against Worley. Further investigation showed that the truck had been involved in multiple collisions in Cocke County and that Worley would face more charges from there.
A resident of Hartman Chapel Road told deputies that Worley had come to his house at a high rate of speed and began to damage the home, including backing the truck into the garage area and running over a lawn ornament. Worley reportedly said that he had been smoking methamphetamine for 17 days straight prior to the series of incidents.
Worley is charged in Greene County with vandalism, evading arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, public intoxication, receiving stolen property and driving on a revoked license.
