For those who remember Takoma Hospital as it was, the sight of medical helicopters landing there was a regular thing.
And while the former hospital building is now called the Greene County Administration Center, the landing zone continues to be used at times.
Kelly Dabbs with Greene County 9-1-1 says the decision on where to land such vehicles in made by medical responders on the scene. Sometimes one of the area high schools might be utilized as a landing zone in the county, such as South Greene or West Greene. But the location on Takoma Avenue is still being used as needed. EMS Director T.J. Manis says it was important that the landing spot be maintained at that location. During paving of the parking lot for the Administration Center , the landing zone was repaving and painted.
