This Memorial Day, as we revel in the joys of summer’s arrival, let us pause to reflect on the true meaning of this sacred day, one set aside to honor those who selflessly answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard the freedoms we hold dear as citizens of this great nation.
On Monday, May 26, 2025, join the community for a poignant Memorial Day Remembrance Program, sponsored by the American Legion Post 64 and the Greene County Honor Guard. The event will take place at First Baptist Church, 211 N. Main Street, Greeneville, at 11:00 AM. Together, let us take a moment to set aside our busy lives and remember the brave men and women who gave their all for our country.
This year’s program will feature keynote speaker Milton Parham, a Greene County native, esteemed educator, and proud United States Army Gulf War Veteran. Parham’s journey began in 1972 when he joined Company C, 844th Engineers, U.S. Army Reserves and underwent rigorous basic and advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His heartfelt words and a visual presentation on the significance of Memorial Day promise to leave a lasting impression on all who attend. This is an opportunity to connect with the stories of valor and sacrifice that make Memorial Day so much more than a holiday. Both the young and young at heart will leave touched by the significance of what Memorial Day honors.
Before you gather with loved ones to celebrate the unofficial start of summer, we urge you to take time to honor those whose sacrifices have ensured your freedom. This small act of gratitude is a powerful way to acknowledge the price of liberty and to thank the heroes who made it possible for us to live, gather, and celebrate in the greatest nation in the world.
Let us come together as a community, united in remembrance and respect, to pay tribute to our fallen heroes. Your presence will not only honor their memory but also strengthen the bonds of freedom and shared purpose that keep this nation unwavering and strong.
