Henderson says “we were putting a lot of money into the store and decided it needed to be shut down. We had been talking about it for a couple of months.”
Any inventory not sold by the end of business on Friday at 10 pm when the store closes for the final time will be transferred to a store located in Knox County. The company has purchased the former Midway IGA market in Corryton, which is in the Gibbs community in East Knoxville.
Food Country USA based in Abingdon, Virginia, has nine locations, seven in Virginia, two others in Tennessee, the new location in Knox County and another in Mountain City.
The Subway at the Mosheim location is planning to remain open in hopes of another grocery store taking over the space being vacated by Food Country.
