Greeneville, TN – From her marriage in 1823 to Dr. Alexander Williams until her passing in 1870, Catherine Dickson Williams was known for her gracious Southern hospitality. Her grand Federal-style mansion on the hill became a center of social life in Greeneville—welcoming both distinguished guests and local citizens alike. Especially during the holiday season, her home glowed with warmth, charm, and festive cheer.
In that same spirit, the Dickson-Williams Historical Association invites the community to a special event:
“A Christmas You Can Only Imagine at the Mansion”

Timed to coincide with Main Street Greeneville’s annual Christmas tree lighting, this enchanting evening will recreate the sights, sounds, and flavors of an 1850s holiday celebration—just as the Williams family might have hosted.
Guests will experience:
• Live bluegrass music around a roaring fire as local musicians set a festive tone for the evening.
• Guided tours through the elegantly decorated mansion, adorned with fresh greenery and authentic period décor.
• Welcomed by Catherine and Dr. Alexander Williams, tour guides, period attired interpreters and character citizen will lead visitors while seasonal violin music and gracious conversation will fill every room.
• Holiday refreshments made from Mrs. Williams’ on 19th-century recipes will be offered as part of the tour.
• A display of early banjos from a local private collection, will be exhibited above the historic kitchen area.
• A lively game of chance in the Library, featuring “gentlemen of means” and their anxious wives—an entertaining glimpse into 1850s social pastimes.
• Children awakened by touring guests, along with a display of antique toys from the personal collection of Tom Lane.
The event is co-chaired by Judy Forshay Plucker and Rich Boyd, both members of the Dickson-Williams Historical Association Board of Trustees. This festive evening is made possible through the generous support and participation of many community partners, including:
