In a hearing which lasted less than ten minutes in Greene County Criminal Court Thursday, convicted child murderer Lavelle Scott’s motion for a new trial was denied.
Appearing with his attorney T. Hunter Shelton before Judge John F. Dugger, the motion filed days after his conviction was turned down for the 30 year old Scott. A jury of 11 women and 1 man returned with its guilty verdict May 7th in the death of Scott’s 31 day old daughter Sophia Floria Fields.
Following the verdicts, Judge John F. Dugger sentenced Scott to life in prison for first degree murder in perpetration of child abuse and first degree murder in perpetration of child neglect. The aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect convictions were later merged with the two murder convictions.
Sheriff Wesley Holt told Radio Greeneville News last night Scott will remain in the Greene County Detention Center until transfer to another facility determined by the Department of Corrections.
