A man used the quick-change scam to take nearly $200 from a store Sunday night, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
The unknown suspect went to the Loves Travel Center at Exit 30 of Interstate 81 around 10:30 Sunday night and went to the counter to pay for a fruit cup and a coffee. The suspect then started asking the clerk to trade in $20 bills for $5 bills. After a while, another customer in line told the suspect he needed to leave, and the clerk then realized something was off.
The suspect was located in the store and returned $100, but the register count later showed that it was still short by $195.21.
