The future of the current Greene County Health Department building once those offices are moved to the new Health Department property at Greene Valley has not yet been decided.
But according to the County Mayor, the Greeneville Energy Authority has expressed interest in the building which is located directly across the road from the GEA operations center and warehouse property, although that road is the heavily traveled four lane on West Andrew Johnson Highway near the Church Street intersection.
Such consideration would no doubt include possible signal light installation in that area.
Mayor Kevin Morrison says some medical offices have also expressed interest in the property.
The current Health Department is co-owned by Greeneville and Greene County.
Construction of the new Health Department building is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
If GEA were to purchase the Health Department site, thus vacating their current building in downtown, then begins the process of what happens to that particular facility.
