One of two suspects in separate thefts from Bath & Body Works in the Greeneville Commons earlier this year appeared in Greene County Criminal Court on Friday.
26 year old Laquazja E. Brown of Knoxville appeared before Judge John F. Dugger, Jr. to enter a Plea by information to theft under $1,000. She and another woman had been charged with thefts from the store February 25th. A “plea by information” is a procedure that allows a case to move forward without a grand jury’s involvement. It is a method for formally charging a person with a crime and proceeding directly to the plea stage. She was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days probation minus time served plus court costs and restitution. Brown and Tamysja M. Payne, also of Knoxville, are two of what is believed to have been part of a group of five women who first came into the store on February 8 and took nearly $3,000 worth of items. Brown and Payne returned about two and half weeks later and took additional items.
