Not only locally, but kindergarten enrollment is down at the beginning of the current school year for many school systems.
School system leaders had expected those numbers to be on the increase five years removed from the COVID outbreak.
Greene County Director of Schools Dr. Chris Malone reported to the Education Committee Tuesday updated numbers just shy of a month since the school year began.
Malone reported 480 graduated kindergarten in the county schools last year, but only 404 are currently enrolled.
5651 total students are currently enrolled in the Greene County School System.
During the half hour meeting at the Central Office, Director Malone also updated the committee on HVAC and sewer plants needs at some of the county schools.
Consideration of aluminum bleachers to replace concrete ones at the North Greene football field are being studied. Malone is also having the condition of seating of the stadiums evaluated at South Greene and West Greene as well as the visitors side at Chuckey Doak.
