The Greeneville Energy Authority has accepted three BEAD grants from the State of Tennessee for additional funding for fiber optic broadband for the GEA service areas across Greene County.
The was board member Shane Hite and before that GEA President and CEO Dwayne Wells following acceptance of the grants during a called meeting this morning.
GEA Broadband had submitted bids for three grants , and received all three totaling $10.35 million dollars.
As the GEA board met Tuesday morning, they were awaiting word from the state on the outcome of BEAD Grant recommendations. The announcement came later in the afternoon that the local utility had passed the state hurdle. The final word on grants will come from the federal level. Then GEA will then begin the process of securing bonds to cover the local costs of the project.
