The Town of Greeneville announced in a press release today that beginning Monday, October 2, Depot Street Project crews will be closing Main Street from Summer Street to Church Street and Depot Street from Irish Street to College Street.
The closure is expected to last six weeks and will redirect all traffic around these blocks while the intersection is under construction. Pedestrian access to businesses will be available via adjacent street parking and lots.
This is reportedly the last large-scale closure for the Depot Street Project and will allow construction crews to complete several jobs, including re-grading the roadway and intersection, installing new traffic signal conduit and wiring, and the construction of curbs, ADA ramps and sidewalks.
The current closure at the intersection of College Depot Streets will reopen before the new closure goes into effect, allowing access to College Street as part of the detour.
Along with detour signs leading to the closure, there will be two message boards placed to encourage truck traffic to take alternate routes. One will be located at Highway 70 and US 321 and the other will be at North main Street and Baileyton Road. Motorists are advised to use caution while the closure is in effect.
