Hurricane Helene resulted in an estimated $30 million dollars in damage to the Greeneville Water Commission, and the process of cash flowing that money pending potential loans and grants continues.
Controller Kaci Lowe updated Water Commission board members this morning on the continuing process of juggling cash flow to cover costs of the flood recovery. While the HEAL loan money of just over $14 million is used as repair cost are submitted, that still leaves another $16 million needed.
Grants of up to $10 million from USDA and EDA grants with no caps have or will be applied for.
A recent GRRF (Governors Response Recovery Fund) application was denied as GRRF determined the Greeneville Water damages were not directly related to the disaster.
In another financial matter at today’s meeting of the Water Commission, the board approved ordering a clarifier for the waste water plant. The emergency repair will cost $56,705 and was one of only two remaining in operation. Loss of the second one would prevent necessary environmental treatment of the water to the river.
