The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement saying that there is a threat of flash flooding in the Greene County area through Wednesday.
The system is expected to bring periods of steady showers mixed with bursts of thunderstorms across East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Southwest North Carolina. With the atmosphere heavy with moisture, these storms could create intense downpours in a short amount of time, triggering flash floods.
Forecasters predict widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches, with some spots possibly seeing more than 3 inches before the system moves out. Residents are urged to remain alert, especially in flood-prone areas.
