A national traveling exhibit that brings the stories of the American Revolution to life is coming to Greeneville this August.
Hosted by the Nolichucky Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the American Revolution Experience will open at the Greeneville Greene County History Museum on Tuesday, August 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM with a public reception. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
Developed by the American Battlefield Trust in partnership with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the innovative pop-up exhibit features 12 thematic display panels and three interactive digital kiosks. Through storytelling, illustrations, and authentic primary accounts, the exhibit explores the lives of both well-known and lesser-known individuals who shaped the course of American independence.
Museum visitors can engage with a wide range of historical perspectives — from Patriot soldiers and Loyalists to women, Black and Native individuals, and international allies — all of whom navigated the turbulent choices of the Revolutionary era.
“The American Revolution would not have happened without the decisions, sacrifices, and valor of ordinary people,” said DAR President General Pamela Rouse Wright. “DAR is honored to have collaborated with the American Battlefield Trust on this initiative to highlight some of our Patriots and their roles in the founding of this great country. We are thrilled for people in communities across the country to learn more about these individuals.”
The exhibit originally launched online in 2022 and quickly received national recognition, earning a Bronze Anthem Award in the Education, Art & Culture category and being named a finalist for a Webby People’s Choice Award. Artist Dale Watson’s custom illustrations bring many of these historical figures to life, while digital resources link visitors to deeper biographical stories and battlefield sites preserved today.
“Independence may have been declared in Philadelphia by the Declaration’s 56 signers, but it was hard-won on the battlefields by the thousands of Patriot soldiers from whom today’s Daughters trace descent,” said American Battlefield Trust President David Duncan. “Together, our organizations bear witness to the fact that we are not so far removed from those impactful events.”
The Greeneville Greene County History Museum, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing local history, is one of dozens of institutions across the country selected to host the American Revolution Experience as it tours through 2025. A permanent installation will remain at DAR’s national headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is always free.
