Residents are reminded to keep an eye for broken water pipes as temperatures are now above freezing.
The single digit temperatures and highs that stayed below freezing for several days could have frozen pipes that would just now begin to thaw, revealing breaks or leaks. Keep a special eye out on outbuildings, barns, or other outside water taps. Water running or pooling across the ground or decreased water pressure to your home or neighborhood could be a sign of an underground pipe break.
You can report any suspected leak or line break to your local water utility or to the Greeneville Water Commission by calling 638-3148. Even if you are outside the city limits of Greeneville or are unsure of your water supplier, you can call that number. Greeneville Water and the other water utilities will be happy to help locate the appropriate department to check for possible line breaks.
