A Del Rio man faces gun related charges after an incident involving two Greene County residents Sunday.
The Cocke County Sheriffs Department says 71 year old John Turner is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and one count of reckless endangerment while intoxicated.
The incident which led to the charges occurred in the Weavers Bend area where the two had been camping. As they were packing up to return to Greene County a vehicle driven by Turner became stuck in mud and sand. One of the campers helped Turner get the vehicle unstuck. But after doing so, the vehicle got stuck twice more, at which time the camper started to leave but was reportedly told by Turner “you’re not leaving me here.” As the camper ran toward his own car, shots were fired. No one was hit but he and the other camper then fled the area and called 9-1-1. Authorities say when arrested, Turner had a 9 millimeter gun in his vehicle and a .32 caliber handgun on his person.
