RATE INCREASE
A one and a half percent rate increase will add around two dollars to your local power bill each month beginning in October.
The rate increase was approved during the May meeting of the GEA Board today.
This will mark the fifth consecutive year of a small rate increase for customers in an effort to avoid larger rate increases if done so a little at a time.
Unlike last year, when TVA also hiked rates five and a quarter percent, there will be no TVA rate hike for the immediate future. The TVA Board is unable to take such action as it remains without a quorum, having only 4 members on their 9 member board. Appointment of a board member must pass through congress and does not appear to be on the agenda anytime soon.
