The grade crossing work which began Monday morning is taking longer than expected.
Work was initially planned to be finished by the end of the day today but now the closure of the railroad crossing at the Asheville Highway near West Main has been extended through Thursday. Traffic continues to be detoured around the closure.
Norfolk Southern plans to have the crossing open for morning traffic on Friday instead of tomorrow.
