A load of what appeared to be pea gravel was left along East McKee Street and South Main Street Monday afternoon. The owner of the spilled gravel was unknown, but was the cause of delays for over an hour.
The spill happened sometime after 2:00 PM and appeared to have begun on East McKee. The spilled rock covered the road from that intersection up the hill past Asbury Church and the Summer Street intersection. The driver continued away from the scene and did not return to claim the gravel or help with the clean-up.
South Main was closed for about an hour while Greeneville Public Works cleaned up the gravel and washed the sand and dirt residue from the roadway.
