Fire was reported at a home in the 7000 block of Asheville Highway early this morning.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department report, the resident said she smelled smoke inside of her home shortly after midnight. She ran outside and had a neighbor call 911.
The South Greene Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze. The fire was determined to have started from a faulty water heater.
Damage was estimated at $1,000.
