Further details have been provided on a house fire that occurred in the 100 block of Midway Circle early Friday morning.
The homeowner was woken up by smoke alarms around 3:30 AM and found the residence was full of smoke. She and another resident were able to leave the home safely. A third resident was not home at the time of the fire.
Fire investigators returned to the scene Friday evening. The fire appeared to have started in a room that contained various crafting supplies and spread to the attic. Most of the fire damage was limited to the craft room, hallway, bathroom, and attic of the home. The rest of the home sustained damage from smoke and suppression efforts to the attic, including water damage.
Investigators were able to locate the breaker box in another room. Four breakers had tripped, but it was unclear if any of the breakers ran to the craft room.
The origin of the fire was determined to be in or near the craft room. At the time of the report, the cause of the fire was undermined.
The Midway, McDonald, Mosheim, and Town of Mosheim Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene. EMS, the Greene County Sheriffs Department, and Greeneville Energy Authority also responded to assist with the fire.
