A man died Wednesday after a motor vehicle accident on the Kingsport Highway near Shady Rest Circle.
The accident was reported around 2:30 PM. According to the Preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 72-year-old Jesse J. Dever was traveling northbound on Kingsport Highway. Vehicle two, driven by 50-year-old Troy D. Toussaint of Florida, was traveling southbound on the Kingsport Highway. Dever reportedly crossed the double yellow center lines and collided head-on with Toussaint in the southbound lane.
The report states Dever’s pickup came to an uncontrolled final rest in the ditch line and Toussaint’s Kenworth tractor came to a controlled rest along the southbound shoulder. Both were wearing seatbelts and were injured in the accident. Dever’s injuries were reportedly fatal. The Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department, Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad, and EMS, along with THP responded to the scene.
