It’s Election Day in Greene County for the 2024 State and Federal Primary, County General, and Municipal Elections. Radio Greeneville News will be reporting live tonight from the Greene County Election Commission Office beginning at 8 PM.
Polls open at 9 AM this morning and close at 8 PM. Early voting concluded on July 27th with 2,462 votes cast. There were 1,961 votes for the Republican Primary, 409 for the Democratic Primary, and 92 votes for the General Election only.
This year is the first and the beginning of a four-year term in the Town of Greeneville. The Town of Greeneville Municipal Election is the only local contested race for Mayor and two City Council seats. Greeneville Mayor Cal Doty is running for re-election against the former Town of Greeneville Mayor W. T. Daniels.
Five people are running for City Council member in Ward 2, Scott Bullington, Tim Teague, Jonathan Cave, Matt Hensley, and Peter Higgins.
Pam Botta and Josh Quillen are running unopposed for School Board member in Ward 1.
In the County General Election, Chuck Jeffers is running unopposed for Assessor of Property, George Frye is unopposed for School Board member in District 2, and Rick Tipton is unopposed for School Board member in District 7.
Additionally, there is the Town of Mosheim and the Town of Baileyton Municipal Election.
David Hawk is running unopposed in the State Primary Election for the Tennessee House of Representatives in District 5. United States Senate and House of Representatives in District 1 are also on the ballot.
There are 45,397 registered voters this year, according to the Election Commission Office. Only 2,462 cast early votes. Let this year be the year you decide to go vote. Be a part of the change you want to see.
