A Greeneville man was charged Monday in connection with an October theft from another man’s savings account.
On October 23rd, Mark Bledsoe of Kingsport report $10,400 had been taken from his savings account, one at the Eastman Credit Union on East Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville, the other from the West Andrew Johnson Highway location.
Investigation led to the suspect being identified as William John Popp Jr. of North College Street, Greeneville.
Police say Popp returned to the East Andrew Johnson Bank location Monday morning, where police were called after bank staff identified him as he was attempting to retrieve bank statements under a false name and using a fake ID. When police arrived, Popp had left the scene, but was taken into custody a short time later outside the Walmart nearby.
Popp was charged on two active warrants with Identity Theft and Theft of more than $10,000.
