Volunteers from the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and Greeneville Fire Department personnel responded to an elevator rescue Wednesday night. For Squad members, the call came while they were helping with parking at the Greene County Fair. Prior to helping at the fair, the squad responded to an animal rescue in western Greene County.
Just after 7PM, the Rescue Squad and Greeneville Fire responded to the Hampton Inn at 3130 East Andrew Johnson Highway. A female was reportedly trapped in an elevator between the second and third floors. The female was unable to climb out on her own. Greeneville Fire used a key to open both doors and lower a ladder. The female was able to climb out unharmed.
The Rescue Squad also responded to an animal rescue. A pet owner on Turner Hill Road in Mosheim called 9-1-1 to report that a cat got stuck inside a car and would not come out. A squad volunteer responded, and the owners suggested taking part of the Mercedes apart to help with the rescue, but after considering that option, decided that the cat would probably come out on its own.
