The Greene County Election Commission announced last week that because of the conviction on May 1, 2024, for Tom Cobble, Republican nominee for the office of School Board Member in District 2, he is now ineligible to have his name placed on the August 1, 2024, general election ballot.
Under Tennessee law, if a political party’s candidate for any office is declared ineligible or disqualified by a court, the chair of the state executive committee may file the name of the political party’s new nominee with the county election commission. The party will have until 12:00 noon prevailing time on June 22, 2024, to file the name of the new nominee.
Cobble plead guilty to official misconduct on May 1st during a Plea Hearing, after resigning from his position on the Greene County School board and after being under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
