The Chairman of the Greene County School Board announced the resignation of Greene County School Board member Tom Cobble during their meeting on Thursday and stated the Greene County Commission will select someone to replace him on May 20th, 2024. The person selected to fill the seat will be on the board until August 31st, 2024.
Chairman Rick Tipton thanked Cobble, who turned in his resignation letter on April 12th, 2024, for his time and service to not only students but also citizens of Greene County. In Cobble’s resignation letter he stated he was stepping down from the position due to his declining health and inability to continue fulfilling his duties.
On April 15th, 2024 it was also confirmed that Cobble was under investigation but County Attorney Roger Woolsey and others have not been able to comment on the matter as they said it’s an open investigation. It has not been said if the resignation has anything to do with the investigation.
During the Greene County Commission Meeting earlier this month, Mayor Kevin Morrison stated that all applicants who are interested in being a member on the school board should submit a resume or a letter of qualification and desire to serve. Those documents should be turned into the Mayor’s office by noon on May 9th, 2024.
