Radio Greeneville spoke to Personal Information Officer Leslie Earhart with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Monday evening regarding details relating to an investigation on 2nd District Greene County School Board member Tom Cobble.
Earhart stated that TBI was requested to investigate allegations involving former school board member Hugh Thomas Cobble by the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Earhart was not able to specify TBI’s involvement in the case and could not provide further comment.

Please be aware that I am the County Attorney for Greene County and the Greene County Board of Education. I have been requested to respond to an inquiry regarding Tommy Cobble, a former Board of Education Member.
As this matter is under criminal investigation, we are not permitted to disclose any information within the school system’s knowledge about the case as per standing instructions from the district Attorney General’s office.
Without commenting on any specific allegations regarding any School Board Member, as a general rule, we will not prejudge any allegations that’s still under investigation and it is premature and irresponsible for us to share yet to be verified allegations and/or speculate about the next steps of any investigation. One reason for our general rule of deferring comment frankly some of the information we receive is unreliable or secondhand information and we will defer commenting on any specific School Board Member until the investigative work is concluded.
Please be assured that we will cooperate with any investigation and will make any comments to any media outlet at the appropriate legal level.
