Officials with Greene County based Artazn LLC have yet to respond to a directive announced this past weekend by President Donald Trump telling the Treasury Department to discontinue minting of new pennies.
Radio Greeneville News reached out to the local facility Monday which led to a discussion with a gentleman who took our name and number, saying we were one of numerous media outlets inquiring about how this might affect the local company, which is the U.S. Mint’s sole supplier of the penny blanks.
He said company officials did not yet have a prepared statement, as they were caught off guard by the announcement from the President. He did however say he expected one and would have someone reach out to us when that happened.
We have yet to hear back from the company.
Artazn is the former Jarden Zinc Products which is located on Old Stage Road.
