Greene County School Board Member Tom Cobble resigned from the school board on Friday, April 12th effective immediately.
According to the Director Of Greene County Schools David McClain, Cobble resigned because of health related issues and turned in his resignation letter to McClain and Chairman of the board Rick Tipton on Friday. The letter, which was provided to Radio Greeneville by the director, states Cobble resigned because fulfilling his duties as an effective board member has become increasingly challenging due to his health declining.
Cobble says the decision was not easy but that it was the most responsible course of action for him and the board to step down. Cobble has served on the board for 12 years and was re-elected on March 5th, 2024.
McClain said the resignation was accepted and further action regarding the next steps to fill the board seat will be discussed soon. Chairman Tipton will address the matter at the next school board meeting set for Thursday, April 25th, 2024.
